Publisher's Letter >Vol 1 Issue 1 - Sept 2005 Yes indeed, the time has come. After nearly four years as an online publication, Corporate Training Magazine has made the leap to become a print publication. The magazine's vision from Day One has been to fill a void not covered by any other business magazine. While many publications touch on limited aspects of employee training, Canadian businesses had not had a complete resource for professional and organizational development from a Canadian perspective. Corporate Training Magazine brings you news and information on the latest tips, trends and initiatives in all fields of training. We present you with the viewpoints of leading industry experts from the soft skills arena of leadership and customer service, crossing over into the areas of technology and occupational health and safety as well as emerging fields such as e-learning and workplace wellness. With this being the premiere issue of our print edition, we felt it only appropriate to begin with an overview of today's training industry. Our cover story, "The Changing World of Training", is an examination of the role of learning and development in the business environment, emerging approaches and training delivery methods, and how government and industry have stepped in to regulate corporate practices. We also recognize that a key component of learning comes from observing the experience of others. By highlighting their successes, failures and roadblocks overcome, our objective is to present you with proven solutions that can help your organization without having to reinvent the wheel. In this issue, we feature The Home Depot and how they have successfully implemented e-learning in a highly hands-on environment. In future issues, we will showcase other companies and their innovative approaches to training and development. An added challenge for many companies once they have determined the need for organizational learning lies in finding qualified solution providers to train their employees on the latest initiatives. To address this, Corporate Training Magazine is releasing its Training and Development Directory. This desktop reference guide includes a collection of quality professionals across training disciplines and will be distributed with our January 2006 issue. For your convenience, these listings will also be posted in our electronic edition (www.corporatetrainingmag.com). Welcome to Corporate Training Magazine. We look forward to being your guide through the ever-evolving world of professional and organizational development, and may this be a learning experience for us all. Kevin S.
